Behind the Scenes

Conservators and preparators are entrusted with the task of preserving and mounting art and artifacts. They seek the original intent of the piece and the vision its creator intended the public to see. They attempt to preserve its integrity with minimal intervention so that it will last for future generations.

The staff at the Palace of the Governors/New Mexico History Museum worked closely with our conservation and exhibits department to prepare the pieces in Tesoros de Devoción for exhibition. These efforts may not be apparent to museum visitors, but they reflect the cooperative talents of a dedicated corps of museum staff, conservators and preparators.
